2/11/2024 0 Comments Tools like artisan for sketchup![]() ![]() However, once I got into it, I was hooked. It was quite a challenge since I had no knowledge of Ruby or the SketchUp API at the time, plus, I had very little formal programming education (something that still holds me back to this day). Therefore, I decided to try writing an exporter myself (which of course became SkIndigo). I immediately loved both of these applications but there was no way to render from SketchUp to Indigo. At the time, I was toying with the idea of starting a visualization side business and I stumbled onto SketchUp and Indigo Renderer. I started my first plug-in, SkIndigo, in 2005. Their products include Profile Builder 2, Artisan, PlaceMaker, BoolTools 2, and Double-Cut. Their plugins are being used by SketchUp professionals to provide solutions for BIM, cost estimating, quantity takeoff, organic modeling, urban context modeling, polygon reduction, and overall increased 3D modeling productivity. MindSight Studios is developer of premium SketchUp extensions since 2006. But when we use certain plugins like SubD, Clothworks and so on, we can extend the functionality of Sketchup and start creating fluidic forms. When we think about Sketchup, we only think box and rigid forms. ![]() Or maybe there is another plugin I'm not aware of? Thanks all! Wondering now if there are any Scatter users around here that use Enscape and if anyone has any tips/feedback/etc for that app. Now I'm looking for tools and/or methods to use within SketchUp/Enscape which has led me to Scatter. Notably, the paint landscape/objects tool was incredibly easy and useful to use. I've just come off of a a test week using TwinMotion and really enjoyed doing exterior landscape work to my models vs in SketchUp/Enscape. The video below will give you a quick overview. At $20 it, like Artisan, is a real bargain. Designed by Thom Thomassen, a modelmaker from Norway who has also designed an incredible number of other useful free plugins, has designed a set of tools that are what the Sandbox Tools aspire to be. This program has tools which work differently than Artisan but has some advantages over it in the way the selection tools work. I use both regularly and because they each have different attributes, I think their capabilities really complement each other when you are constructing complex shapes. Now there are two different plugins that make not only terrain construction but organic and vehicle construction possible without having the urge to jump out the nearest window. Would like some advice from anyone familiar with using these plugins? Typically we do this kind of thing in Rhino, but I like sketchup more overall and want to do it this way if possible. Looking to make life easier modelling the soft shapes, and want a recommendation if I should use Artisan toolset or a combination of TT's SubD + Vertex Tools2. ![]() ![]() Hey guys, modelling an organic facade cladding on a skyscraper for work. If your extensions development didnt deem itself profitable you were either investing too much time in an extension that didnt command that investment or you were looking at extension development as a career in sketchup alone which i would think would be.a very difficult approach. But you should be able to stop when you choose to stop and keep what youve paid for not pay in perpetuity. If they are going to release weekly/monthly updates and improvments, add ons, the subscription is fine. Sketchup does not do this and artisan did not. I pay subscriptions for plugins and other software that are updated in real time. I have the original artisan paid plugin and a bunch of Mind.sight plugins but i cant justify the price nor it now being a subscription model for the small amount of time i need an organic tool for architecture uses. Now I dedicate less time to developing my tools which are going to be available as a subscription as well by the way. Instead, I have to use my time to work on jobs not related to SketchUp so I can support myself. I myself have had to stop developing plugins full-time because I was not able to make enough money selling them. ![]()
